| Sofia, don't be sorry. I was just thinking about the word "friend" that is now misused all over the web. You're not less a friend than 39 of the 41 people I have in my list! "How did I come to learn Esperanto" is very much like how Max started Tree-Nation: One day I woke up and thought: what about learning Esperanto. I asked my friends they all said it was stupid. Then I learnt Esperanto. However, this is almost impossible for me to talk about Esperanto, since languages (in general) are so deep-rooted in us humans, that it is absolutely not a classical discussion topic. Being depicted as an "artificial language" since its origins, Esperanto is very disturbing for some people. What I can say is that, if you feel curiosity for it, then by all means, learn it. It may not look like the most useful language to date, but it's really like discovering a treasure when you're a child. It's really something that is worth learning. And hey! Once you know it, vi povos skribi al mi en Esperanto. Hey! ;-) About photography... Well, really, I'm more a lover of time than a lover of space. Music, rhythms, music of the words, even writing poems... A few years ago, I realized that I was too much fascinated by words, sound and time, and that I needed to learn to love space, because the world is wide and I never felt any taste for exploring it. So that's how I got interested in photography, as a kind of therapy. I bought a small DSLR (Canon 350D) and 2 expensive Canon lenses (needed the best lenses). But one year later, I lost all motivation, because my photos were not as good as I wanted them to be. I realized that, even with a decent camera and excellent lenses, you still have a lot of technical things to learn, like choosing the best settings when you're in the field, or doing hours of post-treatment when you get back home... And so I got bored, and only took like 4000 photos in 5 years. So I think that I'm not much a photographer. I love to take portraits of people, but since I'm quite shy, I just can't ask them "I would like to make a portrait of you". Do you often go to Italy? Bye, Grégoire |

| Sofia, thanks for the "friendship" (about the quotes : I'm not quite following the Facebook exaggeration that friendship is having someone's name in a contact list - however thanks for the add). I just visited your Flickr gallery, and was wondering why you don't post more photos, as you seem to have a sense of what is a good photography. I like the black and white portrait that you called "It's the art of feeling naked in your clothes". It has this Leica touch that great B&W portraits should have. Since we're friends (^_^), let me talk like a friend : you ought to stop smoking. Even if holding a cigarette gives a style (an attitude) on photos, it will dry your skin, spoil your teeth, cut your breath, make you stink, and close your coffin much earlier than what's needed. So, have a nice day. |
