Wow! Fascinating! When I worked at the San Francisco Presidio--a national park at this point--they found a tree that was presumed extinct and were trying to clone it. There's always a possibility that such a uniform population would not survive (not enough genetic diversity), it's always worth a try.Of course, two trees are better than one in this respect!
