Thank you to the Tree-Nation community for your patience! The following are long awaited photos of your commitment to both our site and our project. Our team of local forestry experts and villagers, above, could not wait to get their hands dirty, begin the planting and finally allow every Tree-Nation user to see their beloved baby trees online!

In august I went to Niger with Etienne, an energetic T-N member to spend 10 days with our team and plant the first trees. Putting ones hands in the soil, digging and planting these young trees is the ultimate reward for all of our hard work. Together with our local experts and all the villagers from the little village nearby, Tree-Nation formally launched the planting.

In 4 days we planted the 5000 that where taken out of the nursery. On the last day the predicted rain finally came, affording ideal conditions for the plants to take root. The rainy season lasts from July to September and is the chosen period to plant in Niger.
The greenest spots of the terrain were chose to plant this first batch. Progressively the settlement of the planted trees will make the adaptation of future trees easier, especially in the dryer zones of the terrain. The chosen distance of 4 meters between trees will optimize their growth without cramping, while allowing for the development of a root system in which every tree will have access to water. Too large a distance will result in some dominant trees and some weak trees, while too short a distance will result in healty yet very petite trees.
This trip we planted:
3000 Acacia Senegal
450 Acacia Sieberiana
150 Acacia Laeta
500 Adansonia digitata (Baobab)
300 Bauhinia Rufescens
300 Moringa Oliefera
120 Hyphanae Thebaica
180 Ziziphus Mauritiana
By the end of the planting we could already see a changed landscape, both in feel and look. Both the team and myself felt a huge sense of accomplishment, and we all cannot wait for the following months to pass as these trees can now lay complex root systems and grow healthily in the earth. We also took the GPS measures and quite a few photos that will end up in the tree profiles of many T-N members.
I invite you read the Story of Etienne's experience and continue planting trees.
