If you could take part in the Copenhagen forum later this year, what would you say?

Let’s imagine for a minute that you are given the chance to talk at this event and get your voice heard by the entire world… What are the ideas you would defend?
What is the point of view you would like to present to the Presidents of the countries of our Planet?

(Dont' forget to join the group first!)

This is a moment of moral introspection. This is the action that will decide the fate of the human race. In one action we can show the world that humanity has truly evolved to understanding the meaning of respect for this Earth and give our children a chance at a life of sustainability. Or through our failure we can show that humanity has failed in its purpose for being on this planet: to preserve it in order to preserve ourselves and to see through a higher consciousness that there is something more important than us.

Humans to this point have done all in their power to exploit the Earth for material wealth at the expense of a wealth far greater: Our forests, our oceans, our water, our seeds, and our health. Through this exploitation we have seen the depletion of our oceans, the destruction of our climate balance, the pollution of our land, air, water, and food, and the decline of common decency and humanity through war. Climate change is the greatest challenge we now face on this planet. However, instead of acknowledging this and working together to solve it,  we are once again allowing political divisions, lack of political will, greed, and selfishness to keep us from doing what is morally necessary to sustain our species and those that cannot speak for themselves. So now we meet to show the world we truly understand what must be done. In that spirit we then must  do the following:

Bring global CO2 emissions to 350PPM through aggressive investment in alternate energy sources and a massive global reforestation effort, with the nations that are contributing most to these emissions helping developing nations to cope with the effects without taking advantage of them through carbon commoditization schemes.

We must declare water a human right in order to keep it from being privitized, polluted, and subverted from parts of the world now already suffering severe prolonged drought which is threatening the sustainability of agriculture worldwide and perpetuating drought.

We must hold corporations that deem to take over our water and seeds accountable for their irresponsible science that is killing biodiversity and polluting our water and land with poisons. If we kill biodiversity, we kill ourselves.

There must be a plan put into place to deal with the influx of climate refugees we are already seeing from places like Kenya, and other islands being effected by sea level rise.

And in any decisions made we must include all people of this world, especially the indigenous peoples who have a knowledge far superior to the technological fixes that have only brought us closer to catastrophe.

There is really much more I would say if I were there, but the main point is this: The Copenhagen summit must not be just another G8 meeting with the elitists of the world working to only capitalize on the suffering of others. Unless we get concrete caps on Co2 and other GHG emissions by 2020 based on science and humanity and not politics, I fear this will all be for naught.
December's UN summit, to be held in Copenhagen, is due to agree a new global climate treaty to supplant the Kyoto Protocol.
