Hi guys, what do you think about the REDD? It's a new international initiative where Developed countries will pay Developing ones, especially the ones with Tropical forest (Brazil, Congo, Indonesia,...) not to cut their forests. It's interesting. How will it work might actually be different for each country, as Deforestation issues are quite different from one forest to the other.
The big question is: Will it work? There might be corruption issues, as it can appear in those countries. Paying not to use a ressource, might lead to no real profit and therefore is not sustainable. How long can Developing countries can pay?

I wanted your opinion on this complicate topic.

I guess paying won't be enough unless they develop also a strategy to survey the employ of the money. Think about banks all over the world: bailing them out is not enough, laws need to be made and implemented so as to control cash flow, credit and so on, and there need to be external audits, etc. I think in this case is the same: yes, giving money could help, but only if there are means to guarantee it is being employed properly.
